Human rights activist Natalia Estemirova murdered in Russia

Chechen human rights defender, Natalia Estemirova, was found brutally murdered soon after she had been forcibly taken from her home on Wednesday morning.

Estemirova was investigating an alleged campaign of house-burnings by government-backed militias in Chechnya. She was well-known for her unwavering activism against impunity.

The Russian government has developed a poor reputation for allowing the abuse and murder of journalists and human rights defenders to go unpunished.
