End Homelessness
In a crushing blow to the Bush Administration, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that Guantánamo detainees have a right to challenge their detention before a legitimate court.
The court's decision is a stark indictment of wrongdoing at Guantánamo.
Still, the decision will not close Guantánamo. It will not keep the administration from transferring detainees to countries known for torture. And it will not stop the Bush administration from finding ways to circumvent the law.
Now Congress must listen.
The last time the Supreme Court ruled that detainees have the right to habeas corpus, Congress turned around and passed the Military Commissions Act in an effort to strip that right away.
Don’t let Congress trample on justice again. Call on your Members of Congress to respect the Supreme Court’s decision, and respect justice.
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

Hiya All,
Wishing you the Happiest of New Years, all the way through.... Thanx for the efforts, friends, your work here is impressive. An injustice to any is an injustice to all, "we, the people...", can't allow it :) For e.g., the fundamental thing taught by Jesus was destruction and murder are of no profit or pleasure, something almost all supposed Christians are anti-thetically opposed to, as is your gov't; and a gleaning from Native American teaching, et al, all life are needed threads in the fabric of life. Put your shadow behind you, give the gift that keeps on giving, a hand to a sister and/or brother :) The more art is given, the more it is, as is life. Very cool site, I like it, even though I've only been on it for a couple days, and, unlike many others that are similar, this one's 'buzz' seems to be keeping it growing; which is necessary. A twig of poetree :)
Cityscape
Hustled and bustled,
Still, hands only put to heart,
Beings, only art.

Put your shadow behind you, give the gift that keeps on giving, a hand to a sister and/or brother. Yet, that will not be enough to realize the possibility of the stopping of the extinction of humanity and large mammals we can see racing towards us from the future, on the horizon; we must change everything :)

I look forward to hearing from you. Goodbye. For those interested :) "of or pertaining to the morning, day: relating to or happening in the morning or in the early part of the day (formal), (Mid-16th century, from late Latin matutinalis, from Matuta, goddess of the dawn.)".

Reaffirming Habeas would go a long ways toward separating Democrats from Republicans, and would certainly show the new majority to be far less authoritarian and given to destroying our constitution to save the corporate economy. Do it, you clowns.

It is amazing that we still haven't evolved past the use of torture yet. But hopefully it isn't as bad as it used to be. Is that too idealistic?

Shut down Gitmo! If the inmates there are suspected of a crime, try them in a fair and impartial court. If not, send them home.

In the twists and turns of the flow of human history, never before have people who are innocent been caught in the grinding wheels of 'progress' and 'civilization' as is happening today. It is difficult to say who is the culprit - for cultures and civilizations divided against each other have distorted views of reality and Justice. Even when the crime of a person is classified by a self-appointed prosecution as a 'crime against humanity' - it is difficult to separate the real culprits from the ones who got 'caught in the net' and hence there is all the more reason for Justice to be a process where the right of the accused to state his case with professional representation is protected.

The Bush Administration has been allowed to circumvent the Constitution for too long. President Bush AND the Congress must respect the Supreme Court's decision on Habeas Corpus for all detainees.
Dustin Ogdin Nashville, TN @ 07:12PM PST Jun 12
Guantanamo will go down in our nation's history as a dark and profoundly misguided chapter. The different make-ups of the Supreme Court (whether with Alito, Roberts, O'Connor, or Rehnquist) that have ruled on Guantanamo have all had one thing in common: 7 of the 9 members were appointed by Republican Presidents. These courts were dominated by judges who were handpicked for their right-wing ideologies and credentials. Each time a Guantanamo case has come before them, even these very, very conservative courts have rebuked the Bush Administration (and, in this most recent case, our enabling Congress who tried to skirt the court's earlier ruling with the Military Commissions act.) This should tell everyone how radical, reckless, and hostile to domestic and international law this Administration's policy has been. Even a court controlled by their own people has dismissed them. Thank god that some sanity has occasionally prevailed. It is time that Congress quit caving to this unlawful, immoral, and dangerous fear-mongering. They should be passing legislation to close Guantanamo, a symbol of America's lawless hubris, rather trying to pass legislation that protects a criminal Bush Administration.
