End Homelessness
In China, you're banned from looking at the Amnesty International Web site – even if you're a journalist covering the Olympic Games!
News that our site was blocked came the day after the release of our new report “Olympic Countdown: Broken Promises.” The report shows little progress in fulfilling the Chinese authorities' promise to improve human rights.
Internet censorship for the people of China is nothing new, but the Olympics were supposed to be different. When China bid for the Olympics in 2001, it declared to the International Olympic Committee that selecting Beijing to host the Games would “give the media complete freedom to report when they come to China.”
Call on the Chinese Government to provide full media freedom and to protect freedom of expression:

Amnesty will continue to pressure Chinese authorities to grant foreign and local journalists alike the freedom to report on the news as they see fit—and honor their commitments as Olympic host.
Thanks for taking action with us!
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

The defense of net neutrality in the United States and the attainment of internet freedom in China and throughout the world is a vital cause for the healthy flow of uncensored information and pure freedom in a place where freedom seems to exist much more easily.

Let's have an Olympics that China and the world can be proud of - give people in China the freedom to access ALL the intranet.

China is a great nation with a great culture. China will mature for the global community when it can behave as though it has nothing to hide. By trying to hide some things through press and web censorship what is revealed is more damning : that China has a self-image which is fearful of external comments. Surely this ancient civilization has so much to offer that critical comments by observers should not be of consequence to its governing councils. Till media censorship remains it is proof of fear and proof of an ancient maturity temporarily covered by self-doubts in the face of a multi-cultural planet. Has chinese wisdom not prepared China for facing a multi-cutural world with fearless openness?
