Mission

The ALS Association (ALSA) is the only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against Lou Gehrig''s disease. It carries out its mission at the national level and through its nationwide network of chapters and support groups. As one of ALSA''s leading chapters, The Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission of The ALS Association by:

Raising funds to support promising research directed at identifying the cause of, cure for and means to prevent ALS.

Providing a comprehensive range of support services for patients and their families in the Greater New York area, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties and northern New Jersey.

Heightening awareness of ALS in order to stimulate volunteerism, scientific and healthcare community activism, and public support essential to the fight against ALS.

Supporting ALSA''s national advocacy program to expand government support of research and elicit programs to make treatments and care accessible and affordable for all ALS patients.

Programs

Patient services include three regional multidisciplinary clinics, support groups, medical and augmentative communication on loan, home visits, transportation, respite care, in-home care.
