  1. Christina Nemr Committed Organization

Through its fellowship program and its committment to spreading knowledge of ICT technology, The Advocacy Project has proven itself to be a genuine champion of human rights and social justice.

  2. Belem Destefani Lending a voice via the Internet

The Advocacy Project sends Fellows for Peace all over the world. From Ethiopia to Nepal, the Fellows help social justice groups have a voice via ICT (Information Communications Technology). The Fellows spend 3 to 6 months in the field blogging about their experience in order to raise awareness for their social justice group's message, as well as teaching them how to incorporate ICT to help further the organization's goals. AP is a fantastic organization trying to get even the smallest human rights group have their voice heard.

  3. Heather Mansfield They are doing amazing on Change.org!

They have raised more money on Change.org than any other nonprofit! Excellent work.

  4. Mendi Njonjo From the Catalogue for Philanthropy

These days it’s commonplace: we live in an information age. What perhaps we don’t see as clearly is the way that information can empower a newly emerging civil society. Launching a campaign, building partnerships, advocating for a cause, reaching an audience—all these have enormous capacity to make change happen. The Advocacy Project has worked on some twenty campaigns (most in countries emerging from conflict), helping its partners use new communications technologies to generate interest in and support for their causes. Each partner is assigned an intern, receives an online news service, learns to disseminate information through up-to-date technology, and benefits from organized events with fellow advocates in North America and Europe. The goal is to expand membership and develop community support for a wide range of projects--launching an international peace network in Nepal; responding to the human rights dimensions of the tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka; advocating for the education of Afghan girls; or supporting widows of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre by helping to build a website that sells their woven carpets … online! Using information as a point of entry, and building the capacity of partners through tailored projects, means new hope for young and old alike. Your advocacy—and philanthropy—goes a long way here.

(From the Catalogue for Philanthropy . In 2005, AP was rated as one of the best small non-profits in the DC area).

    *****
They say:  "The Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington introduces you to the wide world of smaller, local charities – with budgets below $2 million. Though they comprise about 85% of all nonprofits, the public rarely hears about them because most cannot afford to make themselves heard. Yet dollar-for-dollar, they offer some of the most cost-effective opportunities for philanthropy. If “making a difference” is one of your goals, then excellent smaller charities may be for you."
