SUPPORT LITERACY FOR GIRLS IN AFGHANISTAN
Oruj Learning Center provides education for young girls in remote regions of Afghanistan. It is now educating over 1,200 girls in four schools across the country, and is continuing to grow.
 
In addition to the obstacle of poverty, most girls were prohibited from attending school during the Taleban regime – leading to a female literacy rate of 13%, amongst the lowest in the world. Today, girls now have the right to an education, but the journey is far from over. The Advocacy Project (AP) and Oruj are partnering to ensure this journey continues. You can help now with a generous tax-deductible donation of $25, $50, $100 or more –every bit counts!

HELP THE AP ORUJ PEACE FELLOW MAKE A DIFFERENCE AP is supporting Wilhelmina Tsang as this year’s Oruj Learning Center Peace Fellow. A Returned Peace Corps Volunteer studying at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), she and Oruj will be education advocates for a new generation of Afghan girls. Your donation will help her and AP to:
*     Evaluate and improve Oruj’s teacher-training program
*     Draft proposals, seek grants, and continue Oruj’s strategic planning
*     Expand the Learning Partners Peace Education Exchange (US-Afghanistan pen pal project)
*     Assist Oruj with a new website, newsletters, and other forms of mediaHelp Oruj to open a fifth school (pending funding)
*     Inform AP of Oruj’s activities to produce press releases on the organization’s work
*     Conduct outreach and networking activities on behalf of Oruj in Afghanistan and the US
*     Provide English-language support for Oruj
 
KEEPING UP-TO-DATE Wilhelmina will keep donors and others updated by posting regular reports as well as blogging about her experience on the AP website.
