Supporting Kids in Peru (SKIP) is a non profit organization dedicated to enabling children to access education. SKIP’s mission is to give the children of Peru the chance of a better future and keep them from falling into a life on the streets. Education is a fundamental right of all children, and it is vital for ensuring children a higher quality of life. In Peru, the Constitution calls for compulsory primary and secondary education, but most families who enroll their children in public schools end up financing an important part of its cost. Therefore, public education in Peru is not free and many parents cannot afford to send their kids to school. Issues of concern are the quality of education and the disparity between urban and rural children’s access to schools. SKIP works along disadvantaged families to ensure their kids realize their right to an education. In SKIP the idea is not just to give financial assistance but to help families help themselves so they can improve their situation and afford to send their children to school.
