Free the Badja Slaves in the Congo
With support from Peace Fellows, AP has publicized the efforts of WPIO to campaign for the scandalous slavery of pygmies in the Congo and Uganda. These efforts have begun to bear fruit. Using an innovative, community-based approach, WPIO doubled the number of slaves free in 2008 - a significant increase over previous years.
WPIO has asked AP for help in meeting specific targets for 2009, and is considering a campaign to target specific mines and estates where pygmy slaves are forced to work. WPIO is also seeking to take its message to the United Nations. AP is seeking $5,000 for this project.
