End Uterine Prolapse in Nepal
600,000 women in Nepal have been marginalized by the debilitating and humiliating condition of uterine prolapse. Working through Peace Fellows, AP has been drawing attention to the condition for over a year – and the results are encouraging. The government is promising to greatly expand surgeries and has allocated funding for 12,000 surgeries in 2009 - a huge increase over 2008.
In 2009, AP will work with the Uterine Prolapse Alliance (UPA), a network of women’s groups, to set specific targets for a national and international campaign aimed at preventing and treating this unacceptable condition.
