Help Kristina support street children in Kenya!
My name is Kristina Rosinsky and I will be working as an Advocacy Project Peace Fellow with the Undugu Society of Kenya for three months this summer!! AP sends Peace Fellows to its partner organizations every summer with the goal of improving their information production and dissemination work. The ultimate goal of sending Fellows is to transfer skills to AP partners so that they can become better advocates for the social justice or human rights issue they are working for.
The AP partner that I will be working with is the Undugu Society of Kenya. USK's mission is to help the socio-economic empowerment of street children and poor urban and rural communities. They do this by providing educational and vocational training, income generating projects and more. Last summer, USK added advocacy to its efforts so this summer I will be in Nairobi helping the organization improve its advocacy and lobbying work. I will be training USK staff on how to exploit ICT tools for use in their advocacy, helping them network with organizations that could help them, as well as engage communities around the world in outreach efforts.
I am very excited for my summer with USK since the issue of children turning to the streets is a problem that is only growing. There are now an estimated 60,000 children on the streets of Nairobi alone. This is a disturbing figure so I am eager to lend a hand to USK help these children as well as poor families more generally so that children don’t turn to the streets in the first place.
Since my fellowship is an unpaid post, I am seeking donations from family, friends, and anyone else who wants to help a street child have a better, more hopeful future. All money raised will go towards costs I incur directly from volunteering with USK such as airfare, housing and local transportation in Nairobi.
As an aside, the entire time I am in Kenya, I will be blogging on the AP website and posting photographs on my Flickr account so not only do I hope you donate, but I also hope you follow my work!
Thank you!!
