It has recently been revealed that an evangelical network to which you have close connections, known as "The Family," has very strong ties to several anti-gay legislators in Uganda. These legislators include Ugandan Parliamentarian David Bahati, as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who have put forward an "Anti-Homosexuality Bill" that will, if passed, lead to the murder and imprisonment of gay and lesbian people in Uganda, as well as their family members.
Congressman Stupak, I urge you to condemn Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill, and use whatever influence you might have within this network to call for its defeat. This bill, among other things, will: sentence gay people to death for engaging in certain consensual sexual acts; imprison anyone who speaks favorably about same-sex marriage; and imprison parents for not outing their gay or lesbian children to the government. It's a gross violation of human rights, and it's a bill that deserves to be condemned across both sides of the political aisle.
Your affiliation with "The Family" gives you a unique position to speak out about this heinous piece of legislation. Failing to do so is not only a missed opportunity to stop an abusive piece of legislation from becoming law, it's also tacit approval of the type of gross human rights violations that will occur if Uganda's "Anti-Homosexuality Bill" takes effect.
Please, Congressman, condemn this piece of legislation now.
