The U.N. Climate Change Conference is only five weeks away, and no one knows for sure if world leaders will agree on a climate treaty.

What we do know is that strong U.S. climate policy and bold leadership by President Obama will vastly improve our chances for success at Copenhagen. That's why President Obama must start using his bully pulpit to push Congress for the strongest possible clean energy and climate bill, and to rally the world around a strong climate treaty by traveling to Copenhagen in December.

You were elected President on a promise to take bold action on climate change, and indeed you have demonstrated more leadership on this issue than any other President the United States has ever seen. But we are facing a planetary emergency and an unprecedented opportunity, and when it comes to climate, it's time to deliver on your promise to transition America to a clean energy economy and to demonstrate bold leadership at a global level.

As world leaders prepare for the U.N. Climate Change Conference in December, we urge you to step up your efforts to pass strong and comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation here at home and to join other leaders in Copenhagen to ensure a strong climate treaty. By adopting bold climate and energy policy, the US can help rally the world around a strong treaty and unleash a clean energy revolution that will create millions of green jobs and protect our planet and future generations from the worst effects of global warming. Citizens in 180 countries around the world joined with 350.org on October 24 to demand strong, science-based cuts to global warming pollution from their leaders.

Mr. President, we will do all we can to urge the US Congress to take bold action now, and we are asking you to use your bully pulpit to push Congress for legislation that achieves science-based cuts in global warming pollution, transitions us away from dirty energy, and invests in a clean energy future.
