Tell Enel to Use Their Power to Protect Patagonia!
A giant Italian electric company, Enel, now owns more than 90% of the European developer of the Patagonian dam scheme HydroAysen. Our Italian partner CRBM has started a postcard campaign in Italy to pressure Enel, and we want to help. We need you to send letters to Enel's CEO to show them the whole world cares about Patagonia.
Ask Enel to use its power to stop HidroAysén and find clean energy solutions for Chile.
Use Enel’s Power to Stop Patagonian Dams
Thanks to your support, the campaign to protect the rivers of Patagonia is gaining momentum. We've now got the European "head" of the two-headed monster called HydroAysén in our sights.

Dear Mr. Conti,
Enel's international image is threatened by the growing environmental controversy about its affiliate Endesa Chile's plans to dam Chile's Baker and Pascua rivers. These plans are being promoted by the Endesa Chile joint venture "HidroAysen."
I am writing to express my personal concern about these plans. The dams would destroy thousands of acres of rare and endangered Chilean forests. The transmission lines would provide no benefits to local communities, but would require extensive clearcutting of Chilean native forests. It would be one of the world's longest transmission lines to date, clearing a more than 2,450 km swath through national parks and wilderness reserves. All of this destruction would threaten aquatic, bird and mammal species already at risk, including an endangered Chilean deer - the huemul - of which less than 3,000 survive today.
I believe that Enel has a responsibility to prevent these environmental and social costs by using its power with Endesa Chile to stop these plans and promote truly green energy. This is the only way to prevent further reputational harm to Enel.
This is a one-time pledge that can be fulfilled any time.

Hey there-
It's really important that we all spread the word about the campaign to protect Patagonia from destructive dams. Please help by emailing as many of your friends as you can and inviting them to help protect the rivers of Patagonia, like you just did.
And if you haven't already done so, why not become a fan of International Rivers on Facebook?
