Help America's Paper Mills Switch to Cleaner Energy Choices
As a nation, we're all working hard to build a clean energy future, a future that safeguards our wildlife and natural world.
Now we need to help America's industries get on the right track too.
Due to a loophole in current tax codes, America's pulp and paper mills are getting a tax credit for burning harmful diesel fuels along with a substance called black liquor--a byproduct of papermaking.
While recycling black liquor as fuel is a longstanding practice in the paper industry, the addition of diesel fuel to their fuel mix is definitely not!
Tell the U.S. Senate that you support real clean energy solutions for America's pulp and paper mills.
By rewarding companies that use additional diesel, we are only compounding the problem of global warming right at the time when scientific consensus is sharply warning us that we must break our addiction to fossil fuels and chart a new energy path.
If we're going to switch to a clean energy economy that safeguards our natural world, we can't afford to reward industries that continue to pollute.
Help provide incentives for industries that lead to cleaner sources of energy and protect the forests we cherish.

My first job out of high school was working as a Boilermaker on a repair job of a Sugar Beet Factory in International Falls, Minnesota. International Falls has its share of paper mills. I remember on my way to International Falls for the first time, you could smell the paper mills from 50 miles away. I thought it smelled like a dirty diaper.
