The majority of Americans are ashamed of the treatment of detainees in Guantanamo. Many believe that the trial of detainees at Guantanamo violates our Constitution.  World respect for American justice and leadership has greatly declined.  In Congress both Democrats and many Republicans have expressed serious concerns, as have Secretary of Defense, Gates and former Secretary of State, Rice.  The United States must close the Guantanamo facility without delay, transfer the detainees to American prisons, expedite trials, and ensure that detainees are given habeas corpus and other due process rights.
