AFRICAN AMERICAN PLANNING COMMISSION

Mission

The African American Planning Commission Inc. (AAPCI), is committed to addressing issues of homelessness (domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, housing shortage, and unemployment) within the communities in which we live and serve.

Programs

Serenity House Family Residence is the largest transitional (Tier II) domestic violence shelter in Brooklyn, New York, and the second largest domestic violence facility in New York City. Serenity House offers 20 studio apartments, 10 one-bedroom apartments, and 10 two-bedroom apartments. Families may reside in the facility for up to 6 months or longer, as needed. The program offers a host of on- and off-site supportive services to resident families and is supervised by 24-hour on-site staff.

AAPCI/Africa: The mission of AAPCI/Africa is to collaborate with established NGOs on the African continent in an effort to eradicate the twin evils of poverty and HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Strategy:
* raise funds and mobilize resources to help support the development of a community healthcare center.
* Utilize the center and our web portal as a vehicle to campaign for the production of cheaper generic HIV/AIDS drugs as part of our efforts to help cope with the AIDS pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa.
* Provide financial support and management expertise that fully supports community-based micro-enterprise businesses.
* Provide new and/or up-to-date refurbished computers to under-served schools in the communities we serve.
