Mission

1Sky Action Fund works to empower a dynamic activist movement to fight for federal policy on climate change. To raise the profile of climate issues, we must be able to mobilize aggressively, and in 2009 we anticipate the need for intense action around specific legislative targets and specific legislators.
As you know, The U.S. has not only been the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, the U.S. has been the biggest obstacle to global policies designed to address climate change. The scientific consensus is that we have a very short timeline to implement the mitigation measures necessary to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Therefore, the work of the 1Sky Action Fund is necessary to complement the work of our sister organization 1Sky Education Fund and help catalyze a broad, deep and vigorous grass-roots movement to push the federal government into a global-leadership position on emissions reduction, clean economy transition, and green jobs creation.
In 2009, our grassroots organizing work could take the form of both organizing for specific legislative vehicles that will implement bold federal policy on climate solutions, and fighting specific legislative vehicles that would set back the progress of this movement.
Individual politicians, members of key committees for example, will also require organizing efforts, as they are often the lynchpin of a successful legislative fight. We must be able to apply concentrated pressure on these targets in an unencumbered manner to move their positions.

Programs

The 1Sky Action Fund works to
Identify and analyze potential legislative vehicles in the 2009 Congress;
Identify and analyze specific members of Congress who?s positions will need to be moved relative to potential legislation; Create power-maps for each target Senator and Representative?s district, showing all potential strategic levers for our organizing.
Once our target analysis is in place we will create strategic planning models based on each anticipated target. Campaign planning will take into account the field and organizing work already underway in a given state or congressional district and by what other organizations. Our work will work seek to add capacity to our efforts already underway within the target?s district by supporting and magnifying it.
The following are potential tactics and activities we will undertake to move specific targets:
? On the ground organizing in targeted districts on specific legislation;
? Paid phone-banking around key legislators and/or legislation;
? Paid advertising on specific legislators and/or legislation ? to include billboards, print, radio, television or other media;
? Production and distribution of printed materials identifying specific legislation ? includes direct mail costs, including targeted list purchases;
? Online to offline mass media vehicles including PSAs and videos;
? Focused protests and direct actions.
1Sky Action Fund?s work to implement bold government policies on climate change requires the tools necessary for concentrated organizing on specific legislative vehicles and on specific politicians. This work is a way to support the education and advocacy work already under way by our sister organization the 1Sky Education Fund, and many of our partners and allies.
